Question:
If someone washed their hands with fragranced hand wash in the state of Ihram would it be dam or sadqah?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Applying scent to any part of the body in the state of Ihram is forbidden. Hence, you must only wash your hands and body with unscented soap.
If you do wash your hands with scented soap, then only Sadaqah (equivalent to Sadaqatul-Fitr) will be due, because you have applied fragrance only to a small part of the body, namely the hands, which are not a full limb. [1]
The amount of Sadaqah due is ½ Saa’ of wheat, or 1 Saa’ of dates/barley. 1 Saa’ is approximately 3.25kg, so ½ Saa’ equals 1.63kg. [2]
You may pay the equivalent monetary value of these staple foods based on their current market value.
