Question:

What is the ruling if someone comes on their period on the 13th day of their purity day?

I was under the impression that this was istihaza as it is within the 15-day purity period, but I have read about linking the 2 bleeds together. I am confused about this, your help would be most appreciated.

The last 3 cycle dates

March 2025

Bled from 17th at 9am to the 24th at 10am for 7days/nights 1 hour

April 2025

Bled from 14th at 11am to 22nd at 11am for 8 days/nights

May 2025

Noticed blood on 5th may – day 13 of purity period. This bleeding continued on until the 12th of may for 7 days just like a normal period.

Would one continue praying on the 5th, 6th and 7th of may as it’s within the 15 days purity period? Please can you explain what to do in this situation?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

According to the Hanafi madhab, in the situation where the days of purity between April and May were less than 15 days, a person would consider the dates from the 14th April to the 12th May as a single continuous “haidh” of approximately 28 days bleeding. This would mean the person would look at the bleeding from the month before (March) as their “habit” and apply this as the haidh length, and the rest of the days as Istihadhah. I.e. The person would consider the dates from the 14th April 11am till the 21st April 12pm (7 days 1 hour) to be their haidh, and from the 21st April 12pm till the 12 May to be Istihadhah (~21 days).
