Question:

As-salamu alaikum.

I have a question that has been giving me a bit of concern recently. I follow the view that a laminate floor becomes pure from an impurity if the traces like colour smell or taste are gone. But now my concern is that some non halal meat that was greasy fell on that floor then dried. After there were no traces of the non halal meat on the floor after the floor dried up. But when I came out of the shower and stepped on the same place that the meat dried with my slightly damp foot, I can feel the grease on the floor but I can’t see the moisture of the grease on my foot. Does the impurity still transfer although it had dried and no traces were present after it dried in the first place, even though I can feel the slipperiness of the grease when I touch that same spot that the grease had dried. Please if you could give me a response I would appreciate it very much

Jazak Allah Khair

Answer:

According to the Hanafi madhhab, your wet foot will not become impure by stepping on a dry impure floor.

If you place a wet foot on a dry unclean surface, the foot will not become impure.[1]

However, you should note that it is a simple matter to purify impure substances (such as residue from meat which is not permissible to consume) from an impermeable surface such as a laminate floor.[2] The method is to simply wipe the surface (ie: with a cloth or mop), and thereafter the surface will be clean and pure.[3] This would be advisable in terms of Islamic purity as well as from a hygiene standpoint.
