Question:

I know Ghusl in Itikaf is only permitted if I have a wet dream, but if I don’t have wet dreams often and I know that if I have certain foods it will trigger a wet dream. Would it be permitted for me to have those foods to trigger a wet dream and then have a ghusl so I can stay clean throughout the 10 days?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

This understanding is incorrect. Both fardh ghusl and sunnah ghusl is permitted in i’tikaaf—whether done daily or otherwise.

For example, whilst in i’tikaaf, a person may need to take a ghusl due to being in the state of ritual impurity or need to a take a ghusl for hygienic reasons such as an odour emanating from him due to sweating over a period of days—in such a scenario not showering will be of a great nuisance to fellow worshippers who are also observing the i’tikaaf.

If you know, based on reoccurring experiences, that certain foods trigger a wet dream the same night they’re consumed, then you may eat these foods prior to entering the state of i’tikaaf to ensure that you remain pure throughout the 10 days.

Note, however, that despite you not eating those foods that bring about a wet dream, it is still quite possible for you to end up having a wet dream whilst in i’tikaaf.
