Question

I am Mazur with regular discharge (clear or yellow or muddy). If I saw my cloth soiled at night do i need to repeat any prayers? Previously checked during the day and it was clean.

Previously I didn’t know that I had to make wudhu for each prayer and that needed to wear a pad so do I need to repeat all my previous prayers from when I hit puberty as that is when the discharge began?

When I didn’t use to wear a pad the discharge wud soil my underwear sometimes only a little, sometimes a lot but not sure if it was up to the amount of a dirham coin (4-5cm in diameter). I believe it was not more than a coin. I also get a lot of waswas and have OCD while thinking of whether the discharge was more or how many prayers to repeat.

Answer

There are three types of discharges;

  • Madhi (pre-coital fluid), is a thin clear liquid that is discharged at the time of arousal without ejaculation. This necessitates Wudu on emission.
  • Wadhi is a white cloudy thick fluid that has no smell and is discharged either before or after urinating. This necessitates Wudu on emission.
  • Mani (sperm) is a white thick fluid which is discharged at the time of ejaculation. This necessitates Ghusl on emission. (Hashiat Tahtawi pg: 100)

Regarding your questions one washing is sufficient and repeating the prayers is not necessary. Also, there’s no need to repeat that salah due to not knowing if you reached the age of puberty or not at the time. However, one should repent and seek Allah ta’ala’s forgiveness. As for the amount one should estimate the size to see whether if it calculates the size of a dirham coin or not.

As for OCD and Waswasa the shaitan will try to create it particularly in the hearts of believers, especially in salah by creating worldly thoughts and doubts in it.  The musalli should be firm and not give in to these whispers and thoughts and should not allow the accursed Shaitan to overpower him/her.  (Mazaahirul Haqq p.155 v.1)

The best way to address this problem, in the short term is not to think about it at all and be brave and not to let shaitan overpower you; the more you think about it the more it will escalate. In the long term, try to get into a habit of doing zikr and remembering Allah (SWA) as shaitan finds it easy to manipulate and cause difficulties to those people who do not have Allah (SWA) words and blessings in them.
