Question:
I have another question. If you have cat food in your backpack during the Tawaf, is it still valid? Because it’s not halal, and a sister says it’s considered najasa. She asks if it’s still valid. She’s very anxious.

Answer:
Meat that is not slaughtered in the name of Allah Ta’ala is Haram for consumption and is also Najis (impure).[3]
You should avoid performing Tawaf while carrying Najasa (impurity), such as Haram cat food in your backpack. However, your Tawaf is valid because being free from physical impurities is a Sunnah Mu’akkadah of Tawaf and not a condition for its validity.[2]
In conclusion, this person’s Tawaf is valid, and they do not have to pay any Damm (penalty) or charity due to carrying an impure object during Tawaf. However, carrying Najasa which is larger than the size of a Dirham (small coin) during Tawaf is severely disliked (Makruh Tahreemi) should be avoided out of respect for the sanctity of the Haram.[1]
