Does Anger And Pressure Affect The Validity Of Triple Talaq Given In One Sitting?

Question:

I respectfully request your guidance regarding a serious matter of divorce that took place in my marriage.

My husband and I were married in December 2022. Our nikah was verbal, not written , in the presence of 2 Gawahs. On 27th May 2025, during a video call, he pronounced talaq three times in one sitting, using the following exact words:

“Main Syed Asad Abbas apko apny hosh o hawas mein talaq deta hun, hosh o hawas mein talaq deta hun, hosh o hawas mein talaq deta hun.”

This was said in one sitting, repeatedly, while he was in a state of anger and pressure, largely because I have asked him to give me divorce, and it was given on video call, and now he is out of country, and is not coming for 2 to 3 years.

We have not been intimate since then.

There was no prior talaq before this incident.

This was the first and only time talaq was pronounced.

The iddah period has not yet begun, as it happened only yesterday.

My sincere concern is to understand whether this is considered:

A valid triple talaq, making the divorce final and irrevocable?

Or a single talaq, due to it being in one sitting and under emotional pressure?

I want to follow the Shariah properly and not fall into anything that is haram. Kindly advise whether reconciliation is still possible, or if our marriage is now completely over or there is any chance of getting back together? Because we both want to be together like before.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Three explicit Talaqs have been given.[1] It matters not whether these Talaqs were given in anger or under pressure,[2] nor whether they were given in one sitting or three. Thus, Talaq Mughalladah has occurred, meaning you and your husband are irrevocably separated.[3]

You cannot remarry until you have completed your Iddah, married another man, conjugated the marriage with him, he chooses to divorce you, you complete your Iddah and your husband then agrees to remarry you.[4]
