Question:
As selam aleykum
Unfortunately, a long time ago, during fasting, I committed the secret habit out of ignorance. According to the research I did if one knew that it was haram but was unaware that it breaks the fast, then the fast is still invalid. However, if one was unaware of both points, it remains valid. I know that at the time, I did not know that it would break the fast, but I am not certain about my knowledge regarding whether it was haram.
Since then, I have sincerely repented, and I even feel that Allah has forgiven me. However, waswas (doubts) takes over, and I cannot stop myself from checking (even though I have done my research and, according to my research, I am not required to make them up), even when I am outside with family or friends. Since it was a long time ago, I have forgotten many things. Thank you for correcting me and clarifying this matter.
May Allah reward you.

Answer:
Unfortunately, the research you conducted, as well as the answer you found concerning the above mas’alah, are both incorrect and untrue.
If a person masturbates whilst fasting, then their fast inevitably breaks as a result, and they are required to make up that fast without any expiation (kaffarah). [1]
This is the case irrespective of whether one is knowledgeable or ignorant of the prohibition of masturbation and its invalidation of the fast.
It is pleasing to hear that you’ve sincerely repented to Allah ﷻ for this wrong; whoever sincerely repents for their misdeeds will find Allah ﷻ Forgiving and Merciful.
That said, you are still required to make up the fast that was broken due to masturbation—even if it was a long time ago.
Only Allah ﷻ knows best.
