Question:
Assalamualaykum maulana, what are your thoughts on this imams hand movements in salat in relation to the ayaat that are being recited?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
As long as these movements are not excessive, his Salah will remain intact [1]. However, if these movements are extreme such that it can be clearly identified by the onlooker as an action outside of the actions of Salah, then this will invalidate his Salah [2], as it will the Salah of those praying behind him [3].

أَحَدِهَا مَا اخْتَارَهُ الْعَامَّةُ كَمَا فِي الْخُلَاصَةِ وَالْخَانِيَّةِ أَنَّ كُلَّ عَمَلٍ لَا يَشُكُّ النَّاظِرُ أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَهُوَ كَثِيرٌ وَكُلَّ عَمَلٍ يَشْتَبِهُ عَلَى النَّاظِرِ أَنَّ عَامِلَهُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَهُوَ قَلِيلٌ قَالَ فِي الْبَدَائِعِ وَهَذَا أَصَحُّ وَتَابَعَهُ الشَّارِحُ والْوَلْوَالِجِيُّ وَقَالَ فِي الْمُحِيطِ إنَّهُ الْأَحْسَنُ وَقَالَ الصَّدْرُ الشَّهِيدُ إنَّهُ الصَّوَابُ وَذَكَرَ الْعَلَّامَةُ الْحَلَبِيُّ أَنَّ الظَّاهِرَ أَنَّ مُرَادَهُمْ بِالنَّاظِرِ مَنْ لَيْسَ عِنْدَهُ عِلْمٌ بِشُرُوعِ الْمُصَلِّي فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَحِينَئِذٍ إذَا رَآهُ عَلَى هَذَا الْعَمَلِ وَتَيَقَّنَ أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَهُوَ عَمَلٌ كَثِيرٌ وَإِنْ شَكَّ فَهُوَ قَلِيلٌ
