The Ruling On Selling Shares After Discovering The Investment Was Haram

Question:

 

If someone invested in a company like Palantir for example, then discovered later that the company was haram to invest in, when they sell the stocks again can they keep the original amount they invested and dispose of only the profit? Or would they dispose of the entire proceedings from the sale?

Answer:

 

Your understanding is correct that you may keep the principle after selling the Haram share. Thereafter, any profit derived from capital gains and dividend payouts shall be dealt with in the following way:

 

You must work out what percentage of the company’s dealings are Haram. For example, if 80 percent of their revenue is derived from Haram sources, you must surrender 80 percent of your profits to the poor and needy without the intention of reward. You may keep the other 20 percent of the profits which are derived from Halal sources.

 

Finally, it seems as though Palantir is assisting Zionists in their Genocide of our Muslim brothers and sisters in Gaza by providing Zionists with the technology required to commit their atrocities. It is definitely imperative that all Muslims sell their shares in this company immediately.
