Question:

I am a mother of 4 kids. My eldest son is 27 and Alhumdulillah he has just had a baby a couple of days ago. I have a daughter that’s 24, the younger son is 22, and the youngest is 15.

I am 47 years old and just became a grandmother a couple of days ago.

I have had some medical issues in regards to my health, kidney stones, and I have had many incidents where I have been taken to the hospital for treatment due to the severe pain.

I missed my period this month so I did a pregnancy test and found out I am pregnant, I have not reached the 120 days of pregnancy. Still in the stage of a fetus.

I am wondering if it is permissible for me to do a termination of pregnancy, due to my health and age?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Abortion is not permissible [1] except in the case of genuine necessity [2]. Thus, unless you are deemed by professional and reliable medical specialists to be at significant risk of experiencing severe health complications if you were to give birth, you are not permitted to terminate the pregnancy.

To end a life which you have been blessed with is no small matter, it matters not how many children one has had before.

Only Allah ﷻ knows best.
