Question:
Asalamu alaikum i have a zakat question.
Lets assume £5,000 is nisab.
We have Abdullah who is worthy to receive zakat as he is “faqeer”.
So 3 friends decide to give their Zakah to Abdullah.
Abu Bakr gives £2000, and Khalid gives £3,000, and Umar gives £1000 (totalling £6,000 – passing the nisab).
1- Would everyone’s zakah be fulfilled in this case?
2- If not, would all the mens’ zakah be fulfilled if Khalid gathers the £6,000 and hands it over to Abdullah in one go?
Jazakallah Khair
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Everyone’s Zakah would be fulfilled if all £6000 is given in one go since the recipient was below the Nisab at the time of receiving the money, although it is disliked to give one poor person more than the Nisab when there are others who are in need[1].
However, Umar’s Zakah would not be fulfilled if he gave his £1000 separately after the other two, since Abdullah would have owned more than the Nisab at the time of receiving Umar’s £1000 [2].
Only Allah ﷻ knows best.
