Question:

Asalamualaykum this is  a bad situation but i have no one to turn and comfortably ask  about this and  its very disturbing  and i had a very hard time typing it in and so basically my cousin has a problem were excess Gass comes out in salah  and he had to re pray Isha 10 times and he said at the 10th time on the third rakah he got a thought in his head saying wa nauzubillah.”recite fast because this wind problem is Allah’s fault  so recite fast to to mock him”  and then he started reciting fast till he finished so what is the ruling on him wa barakallahufeekum?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Kufr (apostasy) occurs when a person verbally denies or mocks the religion willingly. If a person has thoughts of disbelief that they decide are true, or they decide to become a disbeliever, then this person has committed apostasy. Disbelief is not done by mistake, and neither is Islam removed by doubtful situations or obsessive thoughts (waswasah).[1]

“And if there comes to you from Shaytan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allāh. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.” Surah Fussilat (41:36) [2]

This situation would be dependent on your cousin’s intent. If he simply read fast to prevent his wudhu from breaking without the intent to mock Allah ﷻ, he would not have committed kufr. However, it would be considered kufr if he read quickly intending to mock Allah ﷻ. If the later is the case, he should make sincere repentance to Allah ﷻ for his kufr and reaffirm his faith with the Shahādah if he has not done so already. It would be wise to note that it is an opinion of the scholars that kufr renders all previous rewards null and void, even if after one returns to the fold of Islam, and as such should never be taken lightly. One should always keep in mind that Allah ﷻ does not burden a soul more than it can bear. If there is anything an individual is struggling to understand or manage, they should seek knowledge from Islamic scholars first.[3]

“And We burden no soul except [within] its capacity, and with Us is a record which speaks with truth; and they will not be wronged.” Surah al-Mu’minoon (23:62) [4]

An individual’s wudhu does not break from flatulence unless they hear a sound or smell its scent. If an individual is experiencing difficulty in retaining their wudhu and still has time to perform the salah, they should wait until they are sure their wudhu will no longer break before performing wudhu again. If an individual is suffering from a condition where their wudhu does not remain intact during the entirely of the time of prayer and neither can it be suppressed, such that there is not a sufficient duration of purity where they can perform both the faraa’idh of wudhu and a fardh salah, they will fall into the category of an excused person (ma’zhur). Once this occurs, the excused individual  would need to perform a fresh wudhu upon the entry of a new salah time. A person remains ma’zur until an entire prayer time passes where this breaker does not occur.[5]

The Prophet ﷺ said, “One should not leave his prayer unless he hears sound or smells something.” (Bukhari) [6]
