Question:
If a person has never been for hajj, can he perform umrah in the months of hajj before the days of hajj?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
If a person has not performed his Hajj, it is still permissible for him to perform Umrah any time of the year, including in the months of Hajj (Shawwal, Dhul-Hijjah, and Dhul-Qa’dah) before the days of Hajj. This is because Umrah is permissible any time of the year except for the five days of Hajj (9th-13th Dhul Hijjah), on which it is Makrooh Tahreemi (prohibitively disliked) to perform Umrah. [1] Furthermore, performing Umrah or visiting Makkah during these months does not make Hajj obligatory upon him if he is unable to stay and perform Hajj.
However, he should endeavour to remain in Makkah and perform Hajj alongside his Umrah, such that he fulfills his obligation of performing Hajj.
In any case, if he cannot stay for Hajj, he may perform Umrah in the months of Hajj prior to the days of Hajj and then return home, even if he has never performed his obligatory Hajj. [2]
